Using stone on house front for accents?

I am building new....i will be using vinyl siding. i want to get the look of stone at the bottom of the front walls ...like 2 or 3 feet high. Im not sure if i care if its real stone or not but i was just wondering what the easiest and cheapest to install. i think the term of what i like most is "ledgestone". so what am i looking for and do i need to prepare for it right in the concrete slab that i will be building on or does it need any support underneath?
