Wolverine's Secondary Mutation?

I am not trying to sound like a fan-boy, but here goes. The bone claws allegedly were an off shoot of his healing factor. I believe the marvel 70ies answer at the time was that they were extension from his knuckles, brittle due to the fact there was no real support for the claws but his healing factor would regrow them. (Please oh please do not tell me how many times this is not going to happen. Stan Lee Marvel logic is not true science) Now, his incredible tracking sense of smell might more easily be identified as a secondary mutation, since even in marvel's wacky universe, healing does not make you smell better.
