Can someone help me with a faith crisis?

I haven't been to church in a few years, unfortunately. I have always been a strong believer in Jesus and accepted him into my life at 12. However, with so much going on in the world, I am confused. And the one that really made me just so exasperated is a local news story of a man who died from carbon monoxide poisoning while guarding the food stores in his church that were to be given out to the homeless the next day. I don't know. Even asking this question has me scared that I am making God angry with me. What do y'all think? If I had a regular church I was going to, I would talk this over with my pastor. Unfortunately, I don't.
