Tested 4 days early, and it came back negative. is that too early?

I normally ALWAYS have sore up to a week before I'm due to start my period. This month I realized that they aren't sore at all, but I didn't pay too much attention. About 4 days before my period was due, I was feeling extremely nauseated and so I took a first response pregnancy test. It was negative. Today is the day I'm due to start and my still aren't sore, and I have no cramping feeling (which is also something I ALWAYS get around this time of the month) I know sore and cramping are also signs of pregnancy, but it's just strange that I'm feeling absolutely nothing other than weird spouts of nausea. and it's a strange nausea. something I've never really experienced before. What are the chances that the test came back negative because I tested too early? And if you've ever been pregnant, would you say it was a different feeling between being sick and and feeling morning sickness?
