Woman Mauled To Death By Dog (Belgian Mastiff). What are your thoughts?

I find this news a bit odd. In all my years as a dog owner it is rare for a dog to attack its owner. More than meets the eye to this. Many dogs are not suitable to be kept in small city houses, especially this type of breed. I find people get breeds they know nothing about, have no idea how to handle them and train them. Not only do I feel sad the lady died, I also feel sorry for the dog, who in the correct hands could have had a long , happy life.
